How long do merchants have to post card transaction back to the bank?
2glock asked:
Hi I went out for dinner on the 13th of August and paid with a card. I didn’t get the transaction through to my account until August 27th. Is there any kind of law / policy against taking so long?

It is quite possible that the restaurant did not submit the charge right away. If they use the old paper charge slips as opposed to being online or over the telephone the credit card company cannot post the charge until they get a charge slip. If it was a small local business they may not submit daily.
it was probably the restaurant that didn’t deposit the receipt in a timely manner, not the bank
A merchant is provided up to 60days to post a charge for a particular card authorization.
as you are not perfect neither is a merchant. Keep in mind that whether they take 2 days or 2 months to post, you still got what you paid for. IF you didnt, then it is an unauthorized charge.
